Once you have settled on a pre-engineered building instead of conventional construction, the next step feels simple. Shortlist a few PEB manufacturers in Ahmedabad, ask each for a quote, and pick the best number. Then the quotes come back, and nothing lines up. One is fifteen lakh higher than another for what looks like the same shed. One is priced per kg of steel, one per square foot, and a third is a single lump sum with no breakup at all.
This is the part most factory owners get wrong, and it is not really their fault. When you send a loose enquiry, every manufacturer fills the gaps with its own assumptions. One designs for a higher wind speed, one uses a thinner sheet, one leaves the foundation out. So you are not comparing three prices for one building. You are comparing three different buildings that happen to sit on the same plot.
The good part is that comparing local PEB companies gets simple once you fix the brief you hand them. Get that right, and the quotes almost sort themselves. Here is how to prepare before you request a quote and how to read what comes back.
Before you compare anything, it helps to know where the gaps hide. A pre-engineered building is priced mostly on the weight of steel that goes into it. Change the design assumptions even a little, and that weight moves, and the price moves with it.
Two manufacturers can quote the same shed and land far apart because one designed the frame to a higher wind speed and the other did not, or one spaced the purlins wider to save steel. Neither is lying. They made different engineering choices, and unless you asked them to design to the same basis, you have no easy way to tell the stronger building from the lighter one. That is why a real comparison starts with your brief, not with their quote.
The single most useful thing you can do is write your requirement down once and give the same version to every manufacturer. It does not need to be an engineering document. It needs to take the guesswork away. Cover these:
• Plot and building size. Your plot dimensions, the built-up area you want covered, and the GIDC estate or location, so the wind zone and soil are known from the start.
• What goes inside. Whether it is a factory, a warehouse, a godown, or cold storage, and the machines or racking that will sit in it. A PEB warehouse built for storage and a shed running heavy machines are not the same design.
Clear height and clear span. The unobstructed height you need under the beam, and how much column-free width the floor has to have. These two numbers drive the steel more than anything else.• Crane and mezzanine. Any EOT crane and its capacity, or a provision to add one later, plus any mezzanine or office floor. Say it now, because building it in after the design is fixed costs far more.
• Roof and wall spec. Whether you want plain sheeting or insulated panels, the sheet gauge, and any skylights or ventilators. This is where quiet cost differences live.
• Scope. Whether you want a turnkey job covering design, foundation, and erection, or only supply and erection of the steel while you handle the civil work yourself.
• Timeline. When the plot will be ready and when you need to start production.
Send that same brief to every PEB manufacturer in Ahmedabad on your list. When the inputs are identical, the quotes come back on the same footing, and the comparison finally means something.
The quote tells you the price. It does not tell you who you are dealing with. Run the shortlist through a few checks before the number even matters.
Does the company design and fabricate in-house, or is it a trader passing your job to someone else? A firm that keeps engineering, structural steel fabrication, and erection under one roof owns the result. Ask where their workshop is and whether their own crew erects the building.
Ask each PEB company in Ahmedabad for two or three completed projects near you, and go and see one. A firm with real work standing in Vatva, Naroda, Odhav, Kathwada, Sanand, Changodar, Bavla or Aslali will point you to it without fuss. Look at a building that has been through a couple of monsoons, not a freshly finished one.
Notice how they handle the enquiry itself. A PEB structure manufacturer in Ahmedabad that answers your questions clearly and quickly at the quoting stage usually behaves the same way on site. One that is vague and slow now will not get better after you have paid.
When the quotes arrive, put them next to each other and check the same lines on each. A price on its own means nothing until you know what sits behind it.
What to compare | Why it matters | What to ask for |
Designed steel weight | PEB is priced mostly on steel weight, so this is the real basis for comparison | Total design tonnage and the rate per kg |
Design basis | A lighter design can quietly mean a weaker building | Wind speed, live load and IS codes used |
Sheeting and accessories | Gauge and coating change both cost and life | Sheet gauge, coating and insulation spec |
Inclusions and exclusions | This is where the cheapest quote hides its gaps | Foundation, bolts, gutters, transport, erection |
Scope | Turnkey and supply-and-erect are different prices | Exactly what is in the number and what is not |
Timeline and terms | This affects your production start and your cash flow | Delivery schedule and payment stages |
Warranty and documents | You need these for your factory license | Structure warranty, stamped drawings, stability certificate |
The two lines that matter most are the steel weight and what the price includes. Ask every manufacturer for the designed steel tonnage. Since a pre-engineered building is priced largely on steel weight, the tonnage and the rate per kg tell you far more than the final figure does. A quote that comes in cheaper because it uses two tonnes less steel is not a saving. It is a lighter building.
Then read the inclusions and exclusions line by line. Foundation, anchor bolts, gutters and downpipes, insulation, transport and erection are the items that quietly move between quotes. The lowest number is often the one with the most left out.
Sooner or later someone will give you a figure per square foot, and it is tempting to compare that alone. Be careful with it. A pre-engineered building is usually priced one of two ways, per kg of designed steel or per square foot of built-up area, and the per square foot figure only means something once the specification is attached to it.
As a rough guide, industry references for 2026 put a plain PEB structural shell somewhere in the range of ₹250 to ₹400 per square foot for a standard warehouse or industrial shed, with a basic steel structure a little lower and an insulated or crane-supported building higher. Add a mezzanine, a heavy EOT crane, thick insulation, or a taller eave height, and the number climbs, because every one of those adds steel. Treat these as ballpark market figures, not a quote. Two sheds at the same rate per square foot can be very different buildings once you look at the steel behind them.
So use the per square foot number to set a rough budget, and use the steel weight and the specification to actually compare. The warehouse construction cost that matters is the one written against your own drawing, not the one you read on a webpage.
Before you send an enquiry to any pre-engineered building manufacturer, make sure it carries:
• Plot dimensions, built-up area, and location or GIDC estate
• Intended use and the loads or machines going inside
• Required clear height and clear span
• Crane capacity or future provision, and any mezzanine
• Roof and wall spec, including insulation and sheet gauge
• Scope: turnkey, or supply and erection only
• Your target timeline
One brief, sent to everyone, in the same words.
Be cautious with any quote that:
• States no designed steel weight or tonnage
• Does not mention the wind speed or design codes it is based on
• Gives a lump sum with no breakdown of what is included
• Comes in far below the others with no clear reason for it
• Leaves foundation or erection vague or unmentioned
• Cannot point you to a finished building nearby
Comparing PEB manufacturers in Ahmedabad is less about hunting for the lowest number and more about making sure every number describes the same building. Fix your brief, insist on the steel weight and the inclusions, and see a real project before you decide. Do that and the right choice usually becomes clear on its own.
RF Infra is a pre-engineered building manufacturer in Ahmedabad that designs, fabricates, and erects PEB and steel structures in-house, with projects across Vatva, Naroda, Odhav, Sanand, and the surrounding GIDC estates. If you already have a couple of quotes in hand and are not sure how they stack up, it is worth having a second set of eyes on the steel weight, the design basis, and what each one quietly leaves out.
